Zadara Storage:

Intelligent Software-Defined Cloud Storage

CIO VendorNelson Nahum, Co-founder and CEO
In today’s world of exponential data growth, data management has become a pressing issue for enterprises across industry verticals. Furthermore, the traditional approach of procuring cloud space is not a viable option anymore because of the demands of flexibility, scalability, and cost effectiveness. This is primarily what Zadara Storage tackles; it provides enterprise-grade data storage with all the capabilities that data center managers need, but without the hassle and capital outlays typically associated with it. “Our mission is to provide enterprise-class storage that is always aligned with our customers’ changing world. We do not believe users should give up on any enterprise features as they adopt cloud-based Storage-as-a-Service,” says Nelson Nahum, CEO, Zadara Storage.

Data storage has lagged behind computing and networking resources both in terms of virtualization, and most importantly, in being offered as a service business model. Sure, cloud storage is provisioned as a service, but trying to find it with an SLA guarantee or with the high performance enterprise features is a tough task. This is the void that Zadara Storage is trying to fill.

The company’s patented software-defined Virtual Private Storage Arrays (VPSA) delivers flexible, multi-tenant enterprise Storage Network Area (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) technology for primary and secondary storage. A Zadara VPSA storage array looks, performs, and behaves like enterprise storage and has every feature an enterprise expects from a storage array. It is clear that the market is making a dramatic transition from traditional CapEx-based storage to flexible and scalable, OpEx-based Storage-as-a- Service and Zadara Storage is well-positioned to satisfy this demand. “Some applications just won’t be able to move to the cloud because of compliance reasons. For those needs, Zadara Storage’s Virtual Private Storage Array (VPSA) On-Premise as a Service (OPaaS) solution is a perfect answer,” delineates Nahum.

We do not believe users should give up on any enterprise features as they adopt cloud-based Storage-as-a-Service

The company’s continued success demonstrates the excellent alignment between the market requirement for OpEx-based, flexible storage solutions and the Zadara storage cloud Enterprise Storage-as-a-Service solution. In addition to block and file storage services, Zadara now offers Object Storage to fit the needs of any storage workload. One such offering from Zadara is ZIOS, which is a simple, easy to use, and well protected solution for storing multimedia data, big data, or archiving data of any sort, while providing easy access to storage anytime, anywhere.

One of the many instances that bring Zadara’s expertise in dealing with its clients to the fore is the case of Starcom, UK’s leading supplier of integrated business systems for the retail and manufacturing sectors. They were facing a refresh cycle of their storage hardware and were looking for a realistic OpEx alternative. After rigorous evaluation, Starcom selected the Zadara VPSA solution to replace their legacy EMC VNX and NetApp FAS storage arrays. The new Zadara VPSA enterprise Storage-as-a Service (STaaS) solution was deployed to support their Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and managed services businesses. By leveraging Zadara’s STaaS solution, Starcom gained the benefits of an OpEx, pay-as-you-go model, along with an important element of control from having the storage hardware reside inside its own data centers—something the firm strongly preferred.

With the flexibility and scalability of the cloud model and benefits of on-premises storage, Zadara is looking to develop an extensible, virtualized software-defined storage technology that caters to the demands of enterprises. “We are changing the face of storage as VMware did for servers. Not to jinx ourselves but I really think our potential is just as great for transforming the enterprise data storage industry,” concludes Nahum.
